La Villa, a fraction of the municipality of Badia (Abbey) at 1,483 meters above sea level, is also known as La Ila or Star.
The picturesque village of La Villa is located in the middle of Alta Badia at the foot of the Gardenazza plateau and the plateau of Piz La Ila. It is famous for the Ski World Cup races that take place on the Gran Risa slope in the Alta Badia ski resort. The slope leads directly to the center of La Villa. Every year in December, the best skiers in the world gather here to compete on the Gran Risa. In summer the "Maratona dles Dolomites" cycling marathon starts here.
La Villa is a popular starting point for hikes in the spectacular world of the Dolomites. Destinations include the Incisa mountain hut, the Campolongo Pass and the famous Sanctuary of the Holy Cross near the meadows of Armentara. Excursions to nearby areas such as Val Gardena, Val di Fassa, Val Pusteria or Cortina are also popular. In La Villa there is also a flying school for paragliders and the two trim trails of Gran Ega and Gnates.
The historical part of the village is characterized by two venerable buildings. The Gothic Ćiastel Colz, a square building with four turrets, was first mentioned in 1536 as Rubatsch and rises on a rock near the village. The church of La Villa dates back to 1516 and is dedicated to Saint Mary ad Stellam. The village name "Star" derives from her.
