Even the Romans used the hot springs for their bathhouses and called the place "Aquae" or "Thermae". In the Middle Ages, the town became an important spa and a popular meeting place for nobles and commoners. In the 16th century, Baden became the summer residence of the Habsburgs and numerous magnificent buildings were built, such as Weikersdorf Castle.
In the 19th century, Baden near Vienna became an important cultural center and attracted numerous artists and intellectuals, including Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart. Many other impressive buildings were also built during this period, such as the Kurhaus, the municipal theater and the casino.
During the Second World War, Baden near Vienna was an important base for the German Wehrmacht. After the war, the city was occupied by the Allies and later taken over by the Soviet Army.
Today, Baden bei Wien is a popular tourist destination and an important spa town. The city is known for its numerous thermal springs and pleasant climate.
